Watson commits to North Dakota State

(MATTOON) Anna Watson, junior at Tuscola Community High School and a player for the Premier Fastpitch Softball 16U Gold has verbally committed to North Dakota State in Fargo, North Dakota. Watson plays summer ball for Coach Denise Prather. The Premier Fastpitch 16U Orange finished 17th at the ASA 16U Gold Nationals in Oklahoma and placed in the top eight at the Triple Crown Sports Sparkler Tournament in Colorado this past summer.

Watson is a shortstop and left-handed hitter for Coach Leonard Sementi at Tuscola. The Warriors were 25-7 in 2014. Watson hit .661 and had 88 stolen bases last season for the Warriors.

As a sophomore, she was named ICA 2014 2A All State Third Team; All Conference First Team, News Gazette All Area First Team and Decatur-Herald All Area First Team. She also earned a spot in the 2014 IHSA Record Book: Second in State for Steals in One Season - 88 Steals; Tied for First in State for Steals in One Inning - 4 Steals; Tied for 6th in State for Steals in One Game - 7 Steals; Tied for 20th in State for Most Season Hits - 72; 14th in State for Highest Season Batting Average -.661. Watson earned varsity letters in three sports (volleyball, basketball, softball) as a freshman.

The Bisons, a NCAA Division I team, have earned five Summit League Championships in the past six years. North Dakota State University upset No. 21/22-ranked Auburn University 5-2 in the first game of the NCAA Division I Softball Minneapolis Regional last year. The Bisons were 36-18 in 2014.

Watson is an honors student and a member of the student council. She is to graduate in May 2016.

She is the daughter of Kate and John Watson.
