Premier Fastpitch repeats Illinois ASA A State Title

NORMAL – Premier Fastpitch 18U repeated their reign as ASA/USA Illinois A State Champions this past weekend at Champions Fields in Normal. After losing their first game on Thursday, Premier went 9-1 in the double elimination tournament and is 35-1 overall. PF 9, BNGSA Explosion 0
Premier jumped out on top with a five run first inning that carried them to a 9-0 victory in the championship game on Sunday. Premier scored in the first on an RBI double by Brenna Finck, a two-run home run by Allison Apke, and a two-run single by Anni Borries.
Jenna Woltman racked up three RBIs on two hits for Premier. She doubled in the third inning and homered in the fifth inning. Allison Apke and Anni Borries also had home runs. Borries also had three RBI.
Kaylea Chappelle got the win. She tossed four innings of shutout ball. She struck out two, walked none and surrendered three hits. Baylee Sparks closed the game out with a strike out, no walks, no hits.
PF 7, BNGSA Explosion 2
Kyleigh Decker drove in three runs, hit two singles and a double. Bailey Martin also had a double and two singles. Apke added a double, single and two RBI. Chappelle gave up two runs on two hits, struck out two and walked two in 3 1/3 innings. Sparks gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one during her three innings of work. The win forced the “If Game”.
PF 7, Hitting Center 98 3
Apke went 2-4 and hit a home run. Sparks allowed three runs over seven innings. She struck out four, walked none and surrendered nine hits. Conner Cutright and Mycaela Miller each doubled. Chappelle also had a home run.
PF 3, Midland Magic 1
Apke collected three hits—including a double, and an RBI for the win. Chappelle pitched all seven innings – five hits, one earned run, eight strikeouts and three walks.
PF 9, Illinois Extreme 1
Extreme managed just two hits off of Sparks, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during her three innings of work. Chappelle finished with one run over three innings. She struck out four, walked none and surrendered two hits. Premier was sparked by Anni Borries – three doubles -- and Apke, who teamed up for five hits and three RBIs. Miller had two hits and two runs. Finck and Decker tossed in two RBIs each.
PF 7, Heartland Havoc 2
Premier racked up 11 hits with doubles by Finck and Chappelle. Martin, Apke and Woltman each had two hits. Chappelle pitched the win giving up five hits, two runs, one earned, striking out no one and walking three. Sparks took over and pitched three flawless innings.
PF 9, Midwest Sting 1
Kyleigh Decker racked up two RBIs on three hits for PF Paulson 18U. She doubled in the first inning and singled in the fifth and sixth innings. Chappelle allowed just two hits, no earned runs, walked one and struck out three during her three innings of work. Baylee Sparks stepped into the circle for three innings. She struck out two, walked no one, gave up three hits and one earned run. Anni Borries had a triple. Cutright, Kyleigh Decker, Apke, Martin each doubled.
PF 11, BNGSA Pride 1
Sparks pitched four innings, two hits, one run, zero earned, no walks and two strikeouts. Chappelle started the contest striking out two.
Finck had a double. Martin two singles. Decker, Apke, Anni Borries, Brigette Belt each singled. Decker had three RBIs while Finck, Borries and Belt each had two.
PF 8, Midwest Menace 0
Kadi Borries held Midwest Menace hitless over 2 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.
Sparks pitched three shutout innings, struck out none, walked one and gave up two hits. Chappelle had a double and a triple. Apke and Miller each doubled.
Illinois Force 3, PF 1
Brenna Finck had two singles and a RBI while Martin and Anni Borries each had a hit. Borries scored the only run. Chappelle allowed one earned run, seven hits and no walks while striking out four over six innings of work
The team is schedule to play this weekend at the Mattoon Bagelfest at the Roundhouse Complex at 3:30 p.m. vs the winner of the Blitz and SI Dragons. Premier Fastpitch 18U will wrap up their season at USA/ASA 18U A Nationals in Bloomington, IN July 31-August 1.
Premier Fastpitch began as one team in the fall of 2011. The organization now fields an 18U, 16U, two 14U and a 12U teams. Premier Fastpitch is based in Mattoon, IL and is under the direction of Kristi and Dan Paulson. About Premier Fastpitch
The core of this team has been together since 2011 with coaches Kristi and Dan Paulson when they won both the 14U ASA A State and NSA A State titles in 2012. Last season they won the 18U USA/ASA A State Title after finishing runner-up at 16U in 2014.
The team includes 2016 area high school graduates from Casey-Westfield, Brigette Belt, Conner Cutright and Kyleigh Decker. Belt is to attend Parkland College with Lexie Black her high school and former Premier teammate. Cutright is to go to Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville and Decker will be at Southern Illinois-Carbondale. Allison Apke, Anni Borries and Kadi Borries played at Teutopolis. Apke is headed to Bradley University while both Borries are to be rostered on the Illinois State University Squad. Kaylea Chappelle finished her prep career at Carmi-White and is to go to Saint Louis University in the fall. Baylee Sparks has signed with Rose Hulman Institute of Technology after playing at Oblong this spring.
Bailey Martin and Brenna Finck are coming off great freshman seasons at Indiana State and Murray State, respectively. They both played high school ball at Maroa-Forsyth.
Jenna Woltman and Mycaela Miller are to graduate high school next spring. Woltman from St. Anthony has already verballed to Butler University where former Premier team member Cheyenne Thompson (Marshall) just finished up a stellar freshman year. Miller from Hammond (ALAH) is the only teammate that hasn’t verballed and is mulling over offers.
