PF 18 Gold wins seven straight for ASA State Title

MOLINE – Premier Fastpitch 18U Gold battled to an ASA A Illinois State Championship in Moline after playing eight straight games on Sunday after rain forced the tournament to finish in a single day. Premier is to travel to play the top teams in the Illinois/Indiana area at the LIDS Grand Park Showcase in Westfield, IN this weekend.

PF 18U Gold 9, Illinois Esprit 1

Premier beat Illinois Esprit 9-1 in six innings in the eighth game on Sunday after a five-run explosion in the third inning to claim the ASA State Championship.

Premier scored in the third on an RBI triple by Haley Ginger, a walk by Conner Cutright, an error, a double by Allison Apke, and an error.

Anni Borries racked up two RBIs on one hit for Premier . She homered in the sixth inning.

Premier relied on Kaylea Chappelle to eat up innings en route to the win. Chappelle pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run, six hits and no walks while striking out two.

PF 18U Gold 7, Illinois Esprit 2

Apke had three RBIs as Premier took home a 7-2 victory over Illinois Esprit in seven innings to for the “if game” on Sunday

She singled in the third inning and homered in the sixth inning. Ginger doubled and Chappelle was 2-for-3.

Kadi Borries baffled Illinois Esprit, striking out four batters. Borries allowed one earned run, four hits and no walks over five innings. Lexie Black allowed one run over two innings. She struck out one, walked none and surrendered four hits.

PF 18U Gold 8, Midland Magic 0

A five-run explosion in the second inning hoisted Premier to an 8-0 win in five innings over Midland Magic 97.

Premier scored in the second on an RBI single by Ginger, a two-run triple by Cutright, and a two-run home run by Kyleigh Decker. Cutright racked up two RBIs on three hits for Premier.

Chappelle kept the Magic off the scoreboard for all five innings she was on the rubber. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on two hits while ringing up three.

PF 18U Gold 12, BNGSA Angels 0

An eight-run explosion in the second inning spurred Premier to a 12-0 win in four innings over the Angels in the fifth game of the day.

Premier scored in the second on a three-run home run by Kadi Borries, a three-run home run by Apke, and a two-run single by Brigette Belt. Decker homered in the third inning.

Chappelle tossed two innings of shutout ball. She struck out none, walked one and gave up no hits. Kadi Borries came in retire the side with the help of Premier’s solid defense. Baylee Sparks finished with striking out one, giving up one hit in the final inning.

Premier’s Anni Borries, Apke, Decker and Borries combined for nine hits and eight RBIs.

PF 18U Gold 3, Heartland Havoc 2

After a couple of lead changes in Sunday’s game, Premier finally pulled out a 3-2 win over Havoc.

Premier pulled out the win thanks to a strong fifth inning. Premier went up for good on an RBI single by Cutright, bringing home Ginger.

Ginger had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. She doubled in the first inning and tripled in the fifth inning.

Black recorded the win for Premier. She allowed two runs over five innings. Black struck out four, walked two and gave up five hits.

PF 18U Gold 5, PF Orange 1

Apke clubbed two home runs to carry Premier to a 5-1 win over sister team Premier Fastpitch Orange in five innings.

Premier came out swinging, scoring three runs in the first inning to jump ahead of PF Orange early. Premier scored in the first on an RBI single by Chappelle and a two-run home run by Apke, scoring Darian Morgan.

Chappelle recorded the win. She allowed one run over five innings. She struck out two, walked one and surrendered eight hits.

Premier was sparked by Anni Borries and Apke, who teamed up for four hits and four RBIs.

Sophie Catlin ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She lasted just three innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed five runs.

In the third inning, PF Orange pushed across its only run of the day on an RBI double by Sophie Catlin. Bailey Martin and Cheyenne Thompson were both 2-for-3.

PF 18U Gold 2, Milan Aces 0

Apke went 1-2, sparking Premier to a 2-0 victory in five innings over the Milan Aces on Sunday in game two. She doubled in the second inning. Belt, Megan Tool, and Ginger each had a double.

Chappelle kept the Aces off the scoreboard for all five innings she was in the circle. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on three hits while ringing up two.

Illinois Esprit 11, PF 18U Gold 10

Premier saw victory slip away on Sunday when a seven-run fourth inning lead disappeared after a furious charge from Illinois Esprit, who ended up with a 11-10 win in the first game on Sunday morning.

Decker was perfect at the dish, going 3-3. She doubled in the second inning and singled in the third and fifth innings. Tool had a double while Kadi Borries was 2-for-3.

Sparks ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She allowed six runs in two-thirds of an inning, walked none and struck out none.

PF 18U Gold 4, Midwest Sluggers 0

Decker went 1-1, helping Premier to a 4-0 victory over Midwest Sluggers 96 on Friday at ASA State, Moline, IL.

She singled in the second inning. Ginger was 2-for-4.

The Sluggers managed just one hit off of Chappelle, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two during her six innings of work. Sparks pitched the final inning giving up two hits but no runs or walks.

Premier tacked on another three runs in the third. Tool singled, scoring Morgan to start the inning. That was followed up by Belt’s single, plating Anni Borries and Decker.

Premier Fastpitch 18U Gold is coached by Kristi Paulson, Dan Paulson and Shelli Nolte. Premier Fastpitch began as one team in the fall of 2011. The organization now fields two 18U teams, a 16U and two 14U. The PF 18U Gold players are from Carmi, Casey, Clinton, Oblong and Teutopolis.
