ASA/USA 16U Gold: Premier Fastpitch Black wins 2, Orange splits

BROKEN ARROW, Okla -- The Premier Fastpitch 16U teams continued the quest for gold at the 48-team ASA/USA 16U Gold Nationals in Broken Arrow, Okla. on Wednesday. Showers and lightening in the area forced a delay in the afternoon pool games. PF Black is 3-0 while the Orange team is 2-1 in pool play. PF Orange defeats 98 Worth Cobras after late game single, 8-7

PF Orange and 98 Worth Cobras traded the lead 10 times on Wednesday, but PF Orange ended up on top with an 8-7 win in seven innings.

PF Orange jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Haley Ginger singled to ignite PF Orange’s offense. A groundout by Mycaela Miller then moved Ginger from second to third. Tool singled, scoring Ginger.

The team went up for good on an RBI single by Leah Allison, bringing home Sophie Catlin in the seventh inning.

PF Orange was led by Ginger’s hitting. Ginger went 3-4, drove in one and scored three runs. She singled in the first, fifth, and sixth innings. Miller hit a two-run triple. Teammate Madalyn Cooper was 2-3. Allison, Megan Tool, Ally Wiegand, Catlin, Jenna Woltman each added singles.

Oklahoma Force defeats PF Orange 7-6

The top of the first saw PF Orange take an early lead, 4-0. PF Orange got things going when Ginger singled. A single by Miller then moved Ginger from first to third. Tool singled, bringing home Ginger. More runs came home for PF Orange when Wiegand and Tool scored on a three-run home run by Catlin.

Ginger was 2-4. Miller 2-3 with a double, Tool 2-4, Wiegand 2-4, Woltman 2-4 with a double, Kaley Maurer 1-2. Katherine Kennedy added a walk.

Wiegand and Allison split the time in the circle.

Strong pitching leads PF Black past TX Firecrackers 7-0

Baylee Sparks held TX Firecrackers scoreless for six innings to boost PF Black to a 7-0 victory on Tuesday evening.

Sparks allowed six hits, one walk and struck out two.

PF Black scored in the sixth on a two-run single by Bailey Martin, an RBI double by Kaylea Chappelle, a two-run double by Cheyenne Thompson, and an RBI single by Anni Borries for a total of six runs.

Brenna Finck went a perfect 4-4 at the dish. She singled in the first, second, fourth, and sixth innings.

Kadi Borries hit a double while Chappelle and Thompson had two doubles each. Conner Cutright, Allison Apke and Anni Borries each had walks.

OK Exclusive falls 8-1 at the hands of PF Black

OK Exclusive didn’t put up much of a fight on Wednesday, as PF Black cruised to a blowout 8-1 win.

PF Black scored three runs in the first on an RBI single by Chappelle and a two-run double by Anni Borries.

Anni Borries racked up three RBIs on four hits including two doubles for PF Black.

PF Black relied on Sparks to eat up innings en route to the win. Sparks allowed one earned run, five hits and one walk while striking out two over seven innings of work.

Apke had a single, two RBIs while Kaddi Borries, Chappelle each singled. Chappelle also had an RBI. Finck was 2-5; Martin 2-4, two doubles; Cutright 2-4, double, RBI and Thompson hit a double.

Premier Fastpitch began as one team in the fall of 2011. The organization now fields two 16U teams and a 14U. Next season PF will compete at the 18U, 16U, and 14U level. The 16U Players are from Carmi, Casey, Charleston, Clinton, Downs, Effingham, Forsyth, Hammond, Lincoln, Maroa, Marshall, Monticello, Oblong, Teutopolis and Tuscola.
