ASA/USA 16U Gold: Premier Fastpitch Black & Orange win on opening day

BROKEN ARROW, Okla -- The Premier Fastpitch 16U teams are competing in the ASA/USA 16U Gold National Tournament in Broken Arrow, Okla. this week. The 16U Gold Tournament is comprised of 48 of the best 16U teams in the nation. Pool Play began on Tuesday and the bracket elimination round is set to begin on Wednesday evening. All-around effort leads PF Black past 98 Team Worth NOLA 5-2

Kaylea Chappelle powered PF Black at the plate and on the rubber Tuesday, willing PF Black to a 5-2 victory over 98 Team Worth NOLA. She homered in the first inning, singled in the sixth inning and racked up two RBIs.

Chappelle allowed two earned runs, five hits and two walks while striking out two over seven innings of work in the circle.

PF Black got its bats going early, scoring three runs in the first inning to pull ahead of 98 Team Worth NOLA. PF Black scored in the first on an RBI double by Allison Apke and a two-run home run by Chappelle.

Also adding to the PF Black offense were Anni Borries with a double and two RBIs, Brenna Finck with a single. Drawing walks were Conner Cutright and Bailey Martin.

PF Black was scheduled to play a late game Tuesday and then finish up pool play on Wednesday.

PF Orange cruises past Las Vegas Rage, 6-0

Las Vegas Rage didn’t put up much of a fight on Tuesday, as PF Orange cruised to a blowout 6-0 win in seven innings.

PF Orange scored three runs in the seventh on a two-run double by Sophie Catlin and a wild pitch.

Megan Tool was solid at the plate for PF Orange. Tool went 1-2, drove in one and scored one run. She homered in the fourth inning.

Leah Allison shut down Las Vegas Rage while she was on the rubber. Allison held Las Vegas Rage hitless over four innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out none.

PF Orange added two more runs in the top of the fourth. Tool kicked things off with a solo home run. That was followed up by Jenna Woltman’s single, scoring Ally Wiegand.

Offensively for the PF Orange, Haley Ginger was 2-3 with a double and a walk, Katherine Kennedy added a single, Wiegand was 3-4 and Madalyn Cooper hit a single.

PF Orange is set to play two more pool games on Wednesday.

Premier Fastpitch began as one team in the fall of 2011. The organization now fields two 16U teams and a 14U. Next season PF will compete at the 18U, 16U, and 14U level. The 16U Players are from Carmi, Casey, Charleston, Clinton, Downs, Effingham, Forsyth, Hammond, Lincoln, Maroa, Marshall, Monticello, Oblong, Teutopolis and Tuscola.
