Thompson verbals to Butler

(MATTOON) Cheyenne Thompson, senior at Marshall High School and a player for the Premier Fastpitch Softball 16U Black has verbally committed to continue her softball career at Butler University.

Thompson plays summer ball for Coaches Kristi and Dan Paulson. The Premier Fastpitch 16U Black finished seventh at the ASA 16U Gold Nationals in Oklahoma and placed fifth at the Triple Crown Sports Fireworks Tournament in Colorado this year. Premier is based in Mattoon.

Thompson played shortstop in high school and earned The Terre Haute Tribune-Star Spring Athlete of the Year Award.

As a junior, she was named to the Illinois Coaches Association All-State Team -- Marshall’s first ever for softball. Thompson was also selected to the First Team Little Illini Conference both her sophomore and junior years.

She broke the single season home run records with 10 and career home run record at 12 (previously five and seven) her sophomore season.

Thompson then set new records her junior year with 12 home runs in a single season and career home runs with 24. Thompson hit .569 with 31 RBIs for the Lady Lions.

She is coached in high school by Meghan Arthur and will graduate in 2015.

In basketball, Thompson was named to the LIC All Conference First Team her junior year and Honorable Mention as a sophomore. She is also a member of the National Honor Society

Butler University is a NCAA Division I School that competes in the Big East Conference.

She is the daughter of Jaqui Basinger and Dane Thompson.
