Premier Fastpitch Black finishes 2nd at ASA State

(MOLINE) Coming off a top five finish at the Colorado Fireworks TCS Tournament, Premier Fastpitch’s 16U Black team took second place at the Illinois ASA/USA 16U A State Tournament this past weekend. PF Orange finished in the top 10 of the 33-team field.

Both teams are to travel to the 2014 Inaugural ASA/USA 16U Gold Nationals in Broken Arrow, Okla. next week.

PF Black avenged the earlier loss and forced the “if” game by defeating the Diamondstorm 3-2. Kaylea Chappelle was 3-4 at the plate with a double. Brenna Finck was also 3-4. Also adding singles were Bailey Martin, Conner Cutright, Allison Apke and Kaddi Borries. 

Borries pitched the first four innings, walking none, striking out two, giving up only one run on three hits. Chappelle finished the game in three innings with two hits, one run, one walk and striking out one. PF Black played a total of six games at Green Valley Complex in Moline on Sunday.

In the final game, PF Black battled Diamondstorm in the 4-0 loss for the second place finish. Brenna Finck had the lone hit for PF Black, while Chappelle, Cutright and Brigette Belt walked.

Tournament highlights

PF Black 4, Illinois Force 0

Lexie Black pitched all seven innings. She pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out one. Apke was 2-4 with a home run. Cutright was 2-3 and Chappelle went 2-3 with a double.

PF Black 4, Midland Magic 97 0

Chappelle tossed a shutout, giving up just one hit, walked none and struck out five. Martin went 3-4 and scored one run. Cutright was 2-3 with two RBIs. Finck also went 2-3.

PF Black 5, Hitting Center 97 0

Borries, Apke and Cheyenne Thompson each homered. Baylee Sparks pitched four inning, allowing just two hits, walked no one and struck out one. Black tossed three innings only giving up one hit, walking no one .

Diamondstorm 4, PF Black 3

Borries doubled in the second and fifth innings. Apke went 2-3, Finck was 2-4, with a double.

PF Black 11, QC Firebirds Red 99

PF Black scored in the third on a solo home run by Chappelle, a two-run double by Borries, a two-run double by Apke. Black allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two during her 2 1/3 innings of work. Chappelle went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs.

PF Black 8, Midwest Sluggers 0

Apke supplied a two-run home run in the first. Martin’s RBI triple, Apke’s double and an RBI single by Chappelle help to add three more in the second. Apke was 3-3. Chappelle allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out three during her four innings of work.

PF Black 13, SI Crush 5

An RBI single by Apke and a two-run home run by Chappelle in the first inning and then an RBI single by Apke, a two-run single by Cutright, a two-run double by Thompson, and an RBI double by Anni Borries during the second inning supplied the early offense for PF Black. Thompson racked up four RBIs on three hits. Baylee Sparks pitched three innings, three hits, a walk, and struck out two.

Hitting Center 9, PF Orange 1

Megan Tool went 1-2, drove in one and scored one run. She homered in the fourth inning. Jenna Woltman and Haley Ginger doubled.

PF Orange 8, BNGSA Angels JV 4

Sophie Catlin went 4-4. She homered in the third inning, doubled in the fifth inning, and singled in the second and seventh innings.

Woltman and Ginger were each 2-4. Woltman and Katherine Kennedy also had doubles and Tool hit a triple.

Leah Allison allowed one earned run, five hits and one walk while striking out two over seven innings of work for the win.

PF Orange 8, CI Diamondstorm 6

PF Orange took the lead in the sixth on a two-run double by Jenna Woltman, scoring Ginger and Mycaela Miller. Woltman racked up three RBIs on two hits. Ginger went 3-4 and scored two. Miller, Tool, Catlin, Kennedy and Amber Tabeling each had singles. Leah Allison recorded the win.

Midland Magic ’97 9, PF Orange 6

Woltman was 2-3 with a walk and a RBI, Ally Wiegand was 2-4 with two singles and Catlin also went 2-4, single, double and a RBI.

PF Orange 2, Extreme Elite Gold 1

Ginger went 2-3. She singled in the fourth inning and tripled in the sixth inning. Wiegand pitched the win.

Premier Fastpitch began as one team in the fall of 2011. The organization now fields two 16U teams and a 14U. Next season PF will compete at the 18U, 16U, and 14U level. The 16U Players are from Carmi, Casey, Charleston, Clinton, Downs, Effingham, Forsyth, Hammond, Lincoln, Maroa, Marshall, Monticello, Oblong, Teutopolis and Tuscola.
