PF 18U Gold battles at top national tournament

SPARTANBURG, SC – Premier Fastpitch 18U Gold rode to a strong 17th place finish at the ASA/USA 18U A Nationals in Spartanburg, SC this past week. Premier fell to eventual National Champions Windermere Wildfire in the second round of bracket play of the 104 team event.

Premier finished a very strong 18U A Summer Schedule with a 45-19-2 record. They are the 2015 Illinois ASA 18U A State Champions and were a first year 18U A Team with players from central Illinois going on to play collegiate softball.

Jack City 8, PF 18U Gold 6

A tight game was decided in the eighth inning as Premier fell to Jack City Softball Jacobs 8-6 in eight innings on Saturday.

Allison Apke racked up five RBIs on three hits for Premier. She homered in the third inning and singled in the fifth and sixth innings. Kadi Borries was 2-for-4 with a double.

Kaylea Chappelle took the loss for Premier. She pitched 3 1/3 innings, walked three, struck out three, and allowed five runs.

PF 18U Gold 2, Team NC Louisville Slugger 0

Chappelle pitched seven strong innings to carry Premier to a 2-0 win over Team NC Louisville Slugger in seven innings on Friday.

Premier held Team NC without a run while Chappelle was on the rubber. She pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out one.

Apke helped Premier take the lead for good in the sixth inning. With the game scoreless in the sixth inning Apke came to the plate and homered, bringing home Kyleigh Decker.

Apke racked up two RBIs on one hit for Premier. Megan Tool had a double while Conner Cutright, Anni Borries and Brigette Belt each had a single.

PF 18U Gold 8, MN Sting 6

MN Sting lost 8-6 to Premier after falling behind by five runs in the fourth inning.

Decker racked up two RBIs on two hits for Premier . She doubled in the third inning and singled in the sixth inning.

Chappelle allowed four runs over six innings. She struck out none, walked three and surrendered seven hits.

Darian Morgan was 3-4 while Chappelle went 2-for-3. Chappelle and Apke had doubles.

PF 18U Gold 3, Frost Falcons 2

Belt’s walk-off single boosted Premier to a 3-2 win over Frost Falcons on Thursday.

Belt got on base three times in the game for Premier . She also drove in one runner. She singled in the sixth and ninth innings.

Chappelle racked up two RBIs on two hits for Premier . She singled in the seventh inning and homered in the ninth inning. She also pitched the win walking one, allowing five hits and struck out one.

PF 18U Gold 15, New Orleans Nightmare 0

Premier won a decisive 15-0 contest over New Orleans Nightmare on Thursday after jumping out to a 11-0 lead in the first inning.

Chappelle, Decker, Kadi Borries, and Tool each had doubles. Apke hit two. Cutright had a triple and Kadi Borries homered. Both Apke and Borries were 3-for-3 with three RBIs each.

Baylee Sparks picked up the win allowing no walks, one hit and striking out two in an inning and two-thirds.

Windermere Wildfire 4, PF 18U Gold 3

Premier lost 4-3 in seven innings on Wednesday, despite out hitting Windermere Wildfire seven to six. Windermere were the eventual 2015 ASA A Nationals Champions of the tournament.

Apke racked up two RBIs on one hit for Premier . She homered in the sixth inning.

Windermere couldn’t get anything going so long as Lexie Black was on the hill. Black held Windermere hitless over 2 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out none.

One run in the bottom of the fifth helped Premier close its deficit to 4-1. An RBI single by Belt set off the Premier rally.

PF 18U Gold 17, Axe-Dial 4

Premier jumped out to an early lead on Axe - Dial and captured a 17-4 victory on Wednesday.

An RBI single by Decker and an error during the first inning and an RBI single by Cutright, a hit by pitch, a sacrifice fly by Apke, and an RBI single by Anni Borries in the second inning supplied the early offense for Premier.

Premier was led by a flawless day at the dish by Haley Ginger, who went 4-4 against Axe - Dial’s pitching. She tripled in the first inning and singled in the second, third, and fourth innings.

Chappelle got the win for Premier. She allowed four runs over two innings. Chappelle struck out two, walked none and gave up five hits.

Team GA Gold 3, PF 18U Gold 1

In the fourth inning, Premier pushed across its only run of the day on an RBI single by Belt on Tuesday in a 3-1 loss against Team GA Gold

Black pitched five innings, walked three, struck out one, and allowed three runs.

Anni Borries had a double, single while Cutright, Ginger and Belt each had two singles.

PF 18U Gold 12, Michigan Batbusters 5

Premier scored five runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Tool, an RBI single by Ginger, a walk by Decker, and a two-run error in the 12-5 win on Monday.

Kadi Borries had two extra-base hits for Premier. She homered in the third inning, doubled in the fourth inning, and singled in the fifth and sixth innings.

Chappelle got the win. She allowed two runs over three innings. She struck out three, walked two and surrendered four hits.

Premier Fastpitch 18U Gold is coached by Kristi Paulson, Dan Paulson and Shelli Nolte. The PF 18U Gold players are from Carmi, Casey, Clinton, Oblong and Teutopolis.
