CO Top finishes: Both Premier Fastpitch teams place in top five

(AURORA, COLO.) Competing in the Triple Crown Sports Fastpitch Showcase in Colorado this past week, the Premier Fastpitch Black 16U team placed in the top five teams in the Fireworks Tournament while the Premier Fastpitch Orange 16U also placed fifth in the Sparkler Event.

PF Orange went 7-1 while the PF Black team was 8-3. There were 750 teams from across the US and over 600 college coaches who attended the Colorado events. Next on the schedule is the ASA Illinois State Tournament in Moline this coming weekend.

Tournament highlights

PF Black scored early wins in pool play with a 9-7 victory over the Ohio Lasers, 7-3 over Tulsa Elite and a 10-1 win over San Jose Sting. The only loss in the pool play came to American Pastime 4-0.

In the Orange’s pool play, the team went 4-0 defeating Skeeters Fastpitch 12-3, Capitol City Chaos 13-0, Nor Cal Patriots 11-2 and SoCal Show 8-0.

PF Orange 5, Colorado Havoc 0

Ally Wiegand held Colorado Havoc hitless over five innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out seven. Haley Ginger went 2-3, Mycalea Miller doubled and Sophie Catlin had two RBI.

PF Orange 6, Team Michigan 3

Ginger went 3-3 at the plate, tripled in the first inning scoring Anna Watson. Catlin brought in three with a home run in the third. Watson was 2-4. Wiegand struck out nine, allowing no earned runs, on eight hits and one walk.

PF Orange 10, Nor Cal Firecrackers 8

PF Orange scored in the first on an RBI double by Megan Tool, a two-run single by Wiegand, an RBI double by Catlin, and an RBI single by Madalyn Cooper. Miller, Catlin, Ginger and Tool combined for eight hits and seven RBIs. Miller homered in the fourth. Wiegand got the win. She struck out four, walked none and surrendered six hits.

Utah Surge 10, PF Orange 2

PF Orange grabbed the early lead, 2-0. A rally started when Leah Allison singled. Watson then stole home. The team then tacked on more runs when Miller scored on a groundout by Tool.

Wiegand walked none, struck out three, and allowed five runs. Wiegand also had the only extra base hit in the game with a double.

BF Black 8, California Nuggets 0

Lexie Black pitched a two-hit shutout, walking none and striking out two. Baylee Sparks earned the save.

Four runs cross the plate in the first, a three-run home run by Kaylea Chappelle and an RBI single by Allison Apke. The team added four more runs in the top of the fourth. Cheyenne Thompson doubled, bringing home Apke, Bailey Martin and Conner Cutright to start the inning. Thompson was 2-3, 3 RBI and Martin went 3-4

Nebraska Gold 9, PF Black 6

Apke racked up three RBIs on three hits. She homered in the first. PF Black grabbed the early lead in the first, 3-0. After Brenna Finck doubled, Martin doubled, scoring Finck. The scoreboard lit up again when Martin scored on a two-run home run by Apke. Martin was 3-4 and Brigette Belt 2-4.

PF Black 11, Kamikaze 0

PF Black scored in the fifth on a two-run home run by Chappelle, an RBI single by Kadi Borries, a two-run double by Finck, and a groundout by Martin. Chappelle took the win in the circle by walking none and striking out one.

The team scored five more runs in the fourth on an RBI double by Belt, a three-run home run by Kadi Borries, and an RBI single by Anni Borries.

PF Black 5, Indy Edge 1

Chappelle recorded the win. She allowed one run over four innings. She struck out one, walked two and surrendered three hits. Apke, who went 1-3 and hit a home run in the third.

PF Black piled on three more runs in the bottom of the third. Apke homered to start the inning. That was followed up by Anni Borries’s two-run home run, scoring Thompson.

PF Black 8, Nebraska Gold 7

PF Black grabbed the lead after a strong seventh inning. PF Black scored on a two-run home run by Apke, scoring Finck. Apke racked up four RBIs on two hits. Cutright had a double. Chappelle earned the win.

PF Black 10, Colorado Springs Thunder 2

Apke, Cutright and Chappelle combined for seven hits and eight RBIs. Chappelle clubbed two home runs for PF Black.

Black pitched four shutout innings, struck out two, walked two and surrendered five hits.

Tulsa Elite 8, PF Black 5

Chappelle homered in the third, singled in the seventh while Apke had a solo home run in the seventh. Cutright was 3-4.

Premier Fastpitch began as one team in the fall of 2011. The organization now fields two 16U teams and a 14U. Next season PF will compete at the 18U, 16U, and 14U level. The 16U Players are from Carmi, Casey, Charleston, Clinton, Downs, Effingham, Forsyth, Hammond, Lincoln, Maroa, Marshall, Monticello, Oblong, Teutopolis and Tuscola.
