ASA/USA 16U Gold: Premier Fastpitch Black finishes in top 8; Orange falls to Black

BROKEN ARROW, Okla -- The Premier Fastpitch Black 16U finished in the elite eight of the ASA/USA 16U Gold Nationals in Broken Arrow, Okla., falling 7-3 to the Indy Dreams Friday evening.

The Black team finished 7-2 in the 48-team tournament and 57-24 overall.

PF Orange's Wiegand hurls gem, but Chappelle hits and pitches PF Black to 2-1 victory

In a game that would end one of the teams run at the inaugural event, the Premier Fastpitch Orange team and Black team battled for seven innings.

Kaylea Chappelle was strong at the plate and in the circle helping PF Black to a 2-1 victory over PF Orange on Thursday evening. Chappelle went 1-4, drove in one and scored one run. She homered in the fourth inning.

Chappelle allowed one earned run, five hits and two walks while striking out three over six innings of work.Ally Wiegand was effective even in defeat, mowing down eight PF Black batters and allowing two runs.

PF Black jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third. A single by Bailey Martin, bringing home Kadi Borries started the inning off.

The lone run of the game for PF Orange crossed the plate in the third inning on an RBI single by Wiegand.PF Black never trailed after scoring one run in the fourth on a solo home run by Chappelle.

Allison Apke was 2-4 with two doubles and Conner Cutright had a double going 2-3 for PF Black.

For PF Orange, Haley Ginger, Mycaela Miller, Jenna Woltman and Kaley Maurer each had singles.

PF Orange ended the tournament 4-3 and the season 42-18.

PF Black makes the most of 6 hits in 4-3 victory over Oklahoma Exclusive

PF Black and Oklahoma Exclusive both had scoring chances on Friday morning, but it was PF Black that was able to capitalize on them as it pulled out a 4-3 win at ASA Gold Nationals.

Oklahoma Exclusive had 11 hits compared with PF Black’s six, but Oklahoma Exclusive stranded 13 runners on base.

The fact that PF Black grouped all of its runs into the fourth inning helped it take advantage of its hits.

Martin was 2-4, Also adding hits were Cutright, Brenna Finck, Cheyenne Thompson and Anni Borries. 

Brigette Belt added two RBIs.

PF Black defeats Nebraska Gold 5-3

Kadi Borries had three RBIs, sparking PF Black to a 5-3 victory in seven innings over Nebraska Gold. She singled in the third inning and homered in the sixth inning.

Cutright was 2-4 with two RBIs while Martin was also 2-4 with two doubles. Belt and Apke had singles.

Baylee Sparks recorded the win for PF Black. She allowed three runs over seven innings. She struck out none, walked one and surrendered seven hits.

Early lead not enough for PF Black, drop 7-3 decision to Indy Dreams

PF Black built an early edge, but Indy Dreams roared back to steal a 7-3 victory.

Chappelle racked up two RBIs on two hits. She singled in the first inning and homered in the third inning.

Chappelle was charged with the loss. She lasted just 3 1/3 innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed three runs.

The top of the third saw PF Black take an early lead, 3-0. Martin singled to ignite PF Black's offense, before Apke doubled, bringing home Martin. PF Black added more runs when Apke scored on a two-run home run by Chappelle.

Martin was 2-3 with a walk. Kadi Borries, Belt, Finck, and Thompson hit singles. Cutright had a walk.

Premier Fastpitch began as one team in the fall of 2011. The organization now fields two 16U teams and a 14U. Next season PF will compete at the 18U, 16U, and 14U level. The 16U Players are from Carmi, Casey, Charleston, Clinton, Downs, Effingham, Forsyth, Hammond, Lincoln, Maroa, Marshall, Monticello, Oblong, Teutopolis and Tuscola.
